The USA Chief Executive Mansio,White House,stands on a knoll on the Pennsylnavia Avenue in Wahington overlooking the Potomac River.The cornerstone was laid in 1792 and in 1800 it was initially completed.Since the second President John Adams moved into the house,all the US presidents have lived and worked there.美国总统官邸-白宫坐落在华盛顿市宾夕法尼亚大街的一座小山上,俯瞰着波托马克河,奠基于1792年,最初建成于1800年.自从美国第二任总统约翰亚当进驻后,所有总统都居住和生活在那里.
However,in 1814,when the English was at war with America,the White House was set on fair by British army.然而,在1814年,当英美之间发生战争期间,白宫被英军付之一炬.
Only its enclosing wall suvided but stainted with scorch marks.只有围墙幸免于难,但却留下了燃烧的斑迹.
It took three years to have the White House renovated and be available for use.此后花了三年时间,白宫才得以修复使用.
In order to hide the scars of war,the burnt wall was covered with many layers of white paint,hence the nameWhite House was given in 1902.为掩饰战争的创伤,被焚烧的围墙上涂刷了很多层油漆,因此被称作白宫于1902年.

The White House is an 18-acre-estate,yet the major part of the ground is filled with lawns,gardens,tennis courts,outdoor pools,bowling alleys,game rooms,movie theaters,horseshoes pits and other subsidiary facilities.白宫占地18英亩.其大部分地面布满着草坪,花园,网球场,室外游泳池,保龄球馆,影剧院,钉马蹄掌坑和其他附属设施.
The 26-meter high 3-floored main section consisting of 132 rooms is not quite spacious.In the west are the magnificent State Dining Room,and the bright and commodious East Room which is the place for balls and art performances.3层36米高的主体部分由132间不太宽敞的房间组成.西侧是豪华的国宴厅,明亮宽敞的用作舞会和艺术表演的东厅.
Each of them has its distinctive features and has its name matching the colors of the wall,ceilings,carpets,and the like in it...其中每间都有独自特色与其内部墙的颜色,天花板,地毯等相匹配... ...
President"s office complex is in the west wing.In addition to Cabinet Room,the Diplomat Reception Room,the Treadty Room,etc., the most important one is the Oval Office,the heartland for president to formulate policies and make decisions.总统办公室位于白宫的西翼.并配有内阁会议室,外宾接待室,缔约室等等.而最为重要的是椭圆办公室--总统阐述和作出重大决定的核心地带.
