Europe"s number two electricals retailer DSG International has met forecasts for first-quarter sales, with trade boosted by strong demand for TVs to watch the soccer World Cup.

The football World Cup is the most watched event in sport.

And it"s provided a boost for a British-owned electricals retailer.

Demand for TVs to view the World Cup has helped DSG International meet forecasts for first quarter sales.

DSG runs the Currys and PC World chains in the UK as well as stores in Italy, Greece and several Nordic countries.

It"s been suffering in the past month amid concerns over the strength of consumer spending.

That"s a common fear across European retailers, not helped by the prospect of higher unemployment and taxes as governments try and rein in their deficits.
